Now that the weather is warming up a bit, the flower are beginning to bloom and the day are gradually getting longer, we have turned our attention to creating refreshing and beautiful drinks to sip the whole summer.
One way to add a touch of elegance to your summer drinks is by adding edible flower ice cubes. Here’s how you can make your own easily at home.
-
Choose your flowers Now this is important... make sure to choose flowers that are safe to eat, and that haven’t been treated with pesticides or other chemicals. Some common flowers that are safe to eat include pansies, roses, violets, borage, chamomile, lavender, chives and rosemary. If you're not sure, best avoid it or do your own research. (Or you can buy them if you prefer!)
-
Wash the flowers Very gently rinse them with cold water to remove any dirt then pat them dry with a paper towel.
-
Add to an ice cube tray Take your clean ice cube tray and place one flower in each compartment. Make sure to position the flower face up so that it will be visible in the ice cube.
-
Fill with water Carefully pour water into the ice cube tray, making sure to cover the flowers. Don’t overfill the tray, as the water will expand as it freezes.
-
Freeze the ice cubes Place the ice cube tray in the freezer and let it freeze completely. This should take about 4-6 hours.
-
Remove the ice cubes Once the ice cubes are frozen, carefully remove them from the tray. You can store them in a container in the freezer until you’re ready to use them.
-
Enjoy! Add the edible flower ice cubes to your G&T or cocktail.
Edible flower ice cubes are a simple yet elegant way to elevate your summer drinks. They’re easy to make, and you can experiment with different types of flowers to create designs.
